88,000 books are being disposed of, donated, and relocated in the library according to Daeshyon Riley, the library liaison of the United Student Association (USA). Riley also added that “the library [staff] was not a part of that plan.”

Joseph Snodgrass, director of facilities management, corroborated the relocation of some of the books, and he also added that “some will be digitized.” He and other members of the facilities are allegedly currently working with the library staff on how to handle the books, but he did not confirm if any are being discarded.

The large bins filled with books in front of the library are a part of what is allegedly being discarded from the second floor of the library, which will tentatively be completely given to the new Student Success Centers.

According to Riley, “any student can take the books in the bins.” The staff at the front desk have given permission to students when asked about the situation, however, Snodgrass, nor the library staff as a whole, have given an official statement confirming this.

Snodgrass and Riley mentioned that the original renovation plan was supposed to begin in September, but it will now tentatively take place during the summer of 2025, “with the final timeline still to be determined,” said Snodgrass.

Snodgrass stated that the “original concept for the project was relayed to the Library in the Fall of 2023.” He also added that this project was funded by donors and the HECap grant that was reported by the Canisius webpage on July 1, 2024.
