Canisius alum John Axford inducted into MLB’s unofficial Hall of Pretty Good
By Colin Richey, Sports Editor, and Peter Neville, Assistant Sports Editor One of the best sports projects on social media is Bryce Whitlow’s Hall of Pretty Good account on Instagram, focusing on highlighting players with good MLB careers that will likely never be enshrined in the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. One of Whitlow’s most recent nominees that was officially inducted was Canisius alumni John Axford. Axford, who played one season at Canisius in 2006 a

Dancing With The Sophie: Sophie’s Last Dance
By: Sophie Asher, Multimedia Coordinator Greetings to all my “Dancing With the Stars” lovers. I hope the post-show depression is not hitting you too hard (if you’re experiencing withdrawals, go watch this week’s “Dancing with the Holidays” special on next-day Hulu). The three-hour finale episode was long, yet action-packed. I even hosted a “Dancing With The Stars” finale watch party at my house the Tuesday before Thanksgiving. I decked out my basement, made a bunch of themed

The Griffin’s Favorite Duo takes on Wicked at Shea’s
By: Hannah Wiley, Features Editor and Kaitlin O’Meara, Copy Editor Since the release of the film “Wicked” in November 2024, the franchise has skyrocketed to a new level of popularity. So, when Shea’s announced that the touring musical would be coming to Buffalo from Nov. 12-30, we knew we had to go. The two of us had both seen “Wicked” on stage before – Hannah on Broadway as a kid, and Kaitlin in 2017 during a previous tour – so we were both very excited to see it again. Whe

Helping Others This Winter Break
By: Ashley Kurz, Managing Editor As the semester comes to a close and there are so many holiday festivities it is easy for students to finish their finals and head home without thinking twice about what they’re leaving behind. Even though some students just come for school and spend a very short time here in Buffalo, there are so many opportunities to get into the community. I would like to take this opportunity to share places in Buffalo to volunteer if they choose to stay

Santa Visits Summit!
By: Kaitlyn Belile, Assistant Features Editor One of my absolute favorite events of the year, specifically the holidays, is coming back around! The Santa event at the school my mom works for happens every first Saturday of December, and I get the opportunity to work at it every year. My mom is the principal at The Summit Center, a school for children with disabilities. Every year, Santa comes to visit Summit so that these children can meet Santa without the added stimulatio

Bryan Ndjonga: Working hard on and off the court
By Andrew Nowel, Sports Layout Editor With the men’s basketball team gearing up for MAAC play, which begins this weekend in New Jersey, the new players of the Griffs bring a renewed energy to the court. After finishing 3-28 last season, Canisius will enter conference play with four wins – and they are ready to prove the preseason polls wrong. Junior Bryan Ndjonga leads the team with 100 points, but it’s not his work on the court that has helped the Griffs this season – it’s t

Mission 100 Days: Ashley Kurz, Canisius alumni, very funny
By: Ashley Kurz, Managing Editor The point of ‘Mission 100 Days’ is for The Griffin staff to reflect on their last 100 days at Canisius. I happened to get an extra 100 days though, to finish my undergraduate credits. I had to stay an extra semester because I couldn’t complete everything in time, but I walked the stage and shook hands with President Stoute. I took pictures and celebrated my friends’ accomplishments. They were done and ready to get started with the next chapte

Griffmas is an annual tradition that includes song, community and family. Before Canisius takes a break for the winter, the Canisius tradition of Griffmas ends the long semester in a festive way. Hundreds of students lined the halls of Dugan, waiting for a cup of hot chocolate while talking to their friends. Outside of Dugan, the tree sit

I Swear This Isn’t Just About a Guy With a Guitar
One of my favorite things to do during the semester is talk to random people. It’s honestly the highlight of my semester sometimes. Recently, on a Thursday night while I was in The Griffin office, I decided to stroll around the hallways for a bit, trying to get my legs moving after a long day of classes and hard seats. I came across this room I had never seen before – the CrescenDON’Ts club room, some kind of musical haven. Inside was this guy who kind of resembled a young H

Spotify Wrapped: Everyone’s Favorite Holiday
By: Paige Apps, Contributor Everyone’s favorite holiday has graced us with its presence once again – Spotify Wrapped is back and arguably better than what we had to deal with last year. If you’re anything like me, the annual Wrapped is not just a day, it’s a whole personality, so I think I’m perfectly qualified to speak on this. Spotify Wrapped began in 2015 as a simple “Year in Music” website that gave listeners a snapshot of their top songs and artists. In 2016 it expanded
