Among the new spaces on campus, Unapologetic Coffee has recently set up shop in Science Hall. They offer a wide variety of breakfast and lunch options from sandwiches to baked goods and coffee items. Owners Alicia and Alisa, two twin sisters with a shared love for coffee – which developed from their family at a very young age – have created an organization aimed at focusing on representation and working to bring fair trade coffee to everyone. Fair trade has been around since 1946 and has sought to create better working conditions and more ethical practices for those in the fields. By continuing these fair practices, Alicia and Alisa have been able to bridge gaps between communities and connect to others through a love of coffee.
As two Canisius alums, Alicia and Alisa return to the Canisius community to share more of their vision and goals. In a previous article posted on Canisius University’s website, Alisa stated, “We want to give back to the community that took care of us. It’s on us to take care of the next generation. We see it as paying off an investment that the school and our neighborhood made in us.” Help support these two women as they preserve family traditions and create meaningful connections within the community by checking it out.
