The Fall Leadership Retreat will be held October 17-19th through SELD. This weekend-long, all-expenses-paid retreat is “designed to teach students introductory leadership skills to bring back to campus.” Applications for first-time attendees are available on GriffConnect through September 23rd!

The Sesame Street Library is coming to YouTube starting in January 2026, according to the Sesame Street Instagram.

In Mississippi, two separate cases of black men hanging from trees have been reported. At Delta State University, Demartravion “Trey” Reed was found hanging on Sept. 15. In Vicksburg, Cory Zukatis was also found hanging from a tree. Both investigations are ongoing, and police do not think they are related.

On Monday, Sept. 22, a representative from Lorenzo de' Medici in Florence will be visiting Canisius from 1-2:30 p.m. in Student Conference Room 205. On Wednesday, Sept. 24, a representative from London Metropolitan University will also be visiting Canisius to present their programs at the same place and time. 

September 16th was National Voter Registration Day. The New York deadline to register for the Nov. 4 election, is Oct. 25. More information is readily available at @WhenWeAllVote on Instagram.

On Sept. 16, Judge Anthony Carro dropped the New York and Pennsylvania terrorism charges against Luigi Mangione. This was the first time Mangione had been in court in five months; his next court date is set for Dec. 1, 2025. 

Also on Sept. 16, the United Nations inquiry found that Israel has committed genocide in Gaza. The 70-page document claims that the U.N. has been investigating Israel since Oct. 7, 2023, and has found grounds to state that Israel has been committing genocide since. 

Campus Bike Day is Wednesday, Sept. 24, and from 12-2 p.m. in the Quad; there will be a free grab-and-go lunch, bike repair service, helmets, bike locks and more!

On Sept. 17, President Donald Trump declared Antifa a “major terrorist organization.” Antifa is a left-wing movement, and not a singular group, and “antifa” refers to “anti-fascist” and “anti-racist.” 

On Sept. 17, a 12-foot golden statue of President Donald Trump was installed outside the US Capitol. The statue depicts Trump holding a Bitcoin. This was on the same day of the Federal Reserve’s decision to cut its key interest rate by a quarter point.
