On Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 4, Sean Ryan became mayor-elect of the City of Buffalo and Zohran Mamdani became mayor-elect of New York City.
The Canisius women’s soccer team is advancing to the MAAC Championship for the first time since 2010, defeating the Quinnipiac Bobcats in a shoot-out to advance to the final round. The championship game will be on Sunday Nov. 9 at 12 p.m. at the Demske Field.
In the recent NYC election, the voting turnout was the largest seen in the past 50 years, surpassing over 2 million.
The Student State of the University will be held on Nov. 7 at 2:30 p.m. in Grupp Fireside Lounge. President Stoute and Vice President Fields will be there to answer any questions both undergraduate and graduate students have about Canisius University.
The government shutdown enters its 37th day at the time of publishing, making it the longest ever in US history. The record was previously held by the shutdown of late 2018 into early 2019, according to CBS News.
Prop 50 passed on Election Day in California. This was a California proposal aimed at redistricting the congressional districts to give Democrats an edge and hopefully work to win back seats – during the 2026 midterm election – in the House of Representatives for the rest of Trump’s term.
In New York, proposition one looks as though it will pass by a slim margin – 45.57% to 42.10%, with 99.5% of votes in – according to WRGB. This proposition looks to convert land in the Adirondacks for an Olympic sports center, with a guarantee of expanding the park to account for the land used.
