On Nov. 13, four people were taken when Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raided Aguacates, a Mexican restaurant on Elmwood, just under one and a half miles from Canisius.
On Nov. 13, Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania was hospitalized after a fall near his Pennsylvania home that caused minor injuries to his face. It was reported that Fetterman fell on his head after feeling light-headed due to a fibrillation flare-up.
Last Thursday, Nov. 6, Texas A&M approved a new policy that requires each campus president to sign off on courses that could contain “race and gender ideology.” This comes in response to a video taken secretly by a student of a professor discussing gender identity in children’s literature.
The Center for International Education is hosting a Study Abroad Fair on Tuesday, Nov. 18 from 12-1:30 p.m. in the student center lobby. Here you can “meet representatives from international programs, connect with returned students, learn about scholarships, application deadlines, and program requirements” and any questions you may have answered (via GriffConnect). This past Wednesday, Nov. 12, Alpha Fire Company was called to the Susan Welch Liberal Arts Building Penn State’s University Park campus after a “sound of explosion” was reported. The building – that just opened last spring – will not be closed indefinitely after a crash spanning from the second to fifth floors was reported and had dropped two inches. There is believed to be no foul play.
Last Friday, Nov. 7, an apartment complex just miles from the UMass Amherst campus burned down, causing the Town of Amherst to declare a state of emergency and leaving 232 students without housing. Parts of the building were still burning by Saturday evening, and demolition was deemed the most effective way to extinguish the fire. In a Sunday afternoon update, Amherst officials announced the fire was under control.
A bipartisan effort received its 218th signature on Wednesday night in an effort to force the House to vote on a measure that would compel the Justice Department to release the Epstein Files. The measure appears likely to pass, but unlikely to survive until enactment. It does, however, force the entire House to go on record demanding transparency from the Trump Administration on the Epstein Affair.
Evacuation warnings were set in effect Thursday evening in Los Angeles County as atmospheric rain approaches Southern California with the potential to be L.A.’s wettest November in 40 years.
