Renewed with a “go set the world on fire” mindset, the Canisius Psychology Club is back on campus and ready to give students a chance to build new connections. From psych majors looking for connections inside their major to friends looking for more opportunities to hangout, the Psychology Club aims to create an atmosphere that brings an entire community together.

Led by President Taylor Evans, the club’s executive board have goals that they will start making them a reality this semester before the club really gets going in the fall. “The club is another place where psychology students or anyone can go, especially if they are not eligible for Psi Chi,” said Vice President Madison Howard. Psi Chi is the International Psychology Honors Society that is open to all undergraduate and graduate students majoring in psychology, who have completed three semesters of college and nine credit hours of psychology coursework.

Being freshmen, Howard, Aedan McGann and Sienna Stepien found Psychology Club to be a way to get involved early in their pathways. With three years ahead of them, each e-board member looks to build the club in their own unique way. “With all of us being so young, we have a lot of advantages of long-term planning, and we’ll be able to see the club grow, which we’ll be able to take a lot of pride in that,” said McGann, the treasurer of the club. Stepien added that Evans strives to make the three freshmen feel like they are impacting the club and the university by making “[their] dreams become reality.” Evans, a junior, is also the president of Psi Chi at Canisius as well as a teacher assistant (TA) for multiple of Dr. Charles Goodsell’s classes. McGann noted how hard Evans works as she “puts her heart and soul into the club,” which helps showcase a fun atmosphere that most clubs on campus strive for.

Students can join the club for events this semester as a de-stress event and a bingo night is in the works. During the de-stress event, there will be multiple ways to relax and enjoy the activities of the event. “We’re doing food, coloring, bracelet-making, slime making and there’s a chance to come and meet the e-board and learn about psychology. Something I love about Psychology Club is that it isn’t just for psych majors. That’s an important message to me as someone who doesn’t have a lot of friends who are psychology majors,” said Stepien, the secretary of the club. Stepien continued with a goal of hers being the focus on mental health around campus and how the club can be influential in helping raise awareness about mental health.

The Psychology Club wraps up a successful finish to the start of 2026 with a renewed sense of hope for the club. With fresh ideas from new people, the club will aim to build on the mission of Canisius: caring for the whole person, which in the eyes of the club focuses on the mental health of each student. Great things are happening at Canisius, and the Psychology Club adds their name to the list of clubs that strive to make leaders out of opportunities.
