If you’ve ever walked through the tunnels from Dugan to Frisch, you’ve probably walked by a mural made by class of 2024 and MBA class of 2025 graduate, Meg Campbell. If you’ve walked down the hall since March, however, you would’ve seen that a new mural is being added right next to Campbell’s by freshman Lexi McFadden!

McFadden is majoring in animal behavior, ecology and conservation (ABEC) with a minor in creative writing and has had the idea for the mural since August. She met Dean Yates at orientation last July and ended up showing him some of her art, which brought up the conversation of her creating a mural when she arrived on campus for her first year. When the email was sent out about looking for a student to create the new mural she knew she needed to see her design come to life. “I showed him some of my art, and he kind of brought up the opportunity of making a mural once I came here, and it kept coming up several times,” McFadden said.

The mural consists of an image of a griffin attacking/taunting a Niagara purple eagle. McFadden came up with the concept when thinking about the school spirit that runs through Canisius and our battle of the bridge rival. She continued on to say, “I remember they really emphasize our rival, like our sports rival, Niagara.”

Given that she’s a creative writing minor, McFadden is a creative person at heart and mostly is drawn to digital art! When it came to starting the design for her mural, the same thing applied. She created the design digitally and submitted it, but created it with the intention of it becoming a painted art piece.

If you ever have time on your hands, definitely take a detour and go by the mural to see it! While it’s not finished yet, McFadden hopes to have it done before the end of the semester and she’s just another example of a Griff leaving their artist mark on our campus!
