Women’s Lacrosse’s seven game win streak snapped in OT loss against Siena

Canisius women's lacrosse saw their seven game win streak snapped in an overtime loss against Siena on Wednesday.


Canisius started the scoring as graduate student Paige Stachura scored right after a Siena goal was disallowed due to a crease violation. Freshman Maddie Fitzgerald scored shortly after to extend the lead to two goals. Siena stopped the Griffs momentum as they scored four straight goals to take the lead into the second quarter, 4-2. 


Junior Hailey Rooney started the scoring early in the second quarter to cut the Golden Griffins deficit to one. Siena scored right after to regain their two goal end. Fitzgerald found a way to score shortly after to get the Griffs within one again. Siena scored off of a turnover to give the Saints a 6-4 lead. Senior Riley Davis scored on a free position opportunity to make it a one goal game again. After battling hard, the game remained 6-5 going into halftime. 


The Griffs tied the game after Fitzgerald scored her third goal of the game, completing the hat trick. Davis scored right after to give the Griffs the lead. Stachura scored two straight goals to give Canisius a three goal lead and complete her hat trick. Siena was able to score a goal right after to end the Canisius five goal run. Stachura scored her fourth goal of the contest right after a pass from senior Caroline Netti. 


Selina started the scoring three straight  goals in the fourth quarter to make the game tied again. Senior Maddie Mazur was able to score to give Canisius the lead again, but Siena was able to score right after to tie the game at 11. The Score remained a tie at 11 as it went into overtime. Siena scored with under two minute left in the overtime period to win the game, 12-11.


The Griffs go on the road to play Fairfield on Sat. March 30. The game is set to start at noon.
