Women’s Basketball kicks off their season with Shoot-A-Thon

This Saturday, following the C-Block Tailgate, the Women’s Basketball team is hosting their annual Shoot-A-Thon from 3:30-5:30 p.m.! This event is a way for the team to kick start their season and raise money for the program.

Following the end of last season and the team getting a new head coach, Tiffany Swoffard, as well as 12 new players after only three from the previous season stayed at Canisius, the Shoot-A-Thon is also a great way for the community to meet the new team before their season opener on Oct. 24.

Every player on the team is going to throw 100 free throws and 2 half court shots. For every shot a player makes, money is going to be donated from a sponsor, and all proceeds will be going back to the Women’s Basketball team for their season. Along with all the players, head coach Tiffany Swoffard is going to be participating as well as President Stoute, Athletic Director Bill Maher, Deputy Director of Athletics Lisa Liotta, Men’s Basketball Head Coach Jim Christian and Amanda Cavo Becilacqua, an alumni of the program who’s being inducted to the Canisius Sports Hall of Fame!

The event will also have pizza provided by Franco’s, and Lemon Perfect is donating drinks. To raise more money, they will also be holding a raffle where you can win gift cards from Breezy Burrito to Zyos, vintage Bills gear donated from Queen City Vintage, and even a TV!

“We’d love for people to come and hang out with us for a couple of hours,” Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator Lindsay Hieronymus said. The Shoot-A-Thon is more than a fundraiser to help raise money for their season, it’s a way for alumni, parents and current students to meet and hang out with the Women’s Basketball team and their new coaching staff!

Even if you only have 15 minutes to spare, the team would love to meet you. Any support is good support!

GOOD LUCK, GOD BLESS, GO GRIFFS!
