Swim Griffs take home pair of MAAC Championships

On February 8th-11th the Canisius Women’s and Men’s Swim and Dive teams competed in the MAAC Championships at the Burt Flickinger Athletic Center.

Both teams placed 5th overall with the men accumulating 37 personal best times and 9 records. Sophomore Archie Minto, placed 1st in both the 100 and 200 yard butterfly finals. Minto also set four new records, 20:66 in the 50 yard freestyle, 45:19 in the 100 yard freestyle, 1:49:72 in the 200 yard IM, and 50:11 in the 100 yard backstroke.

Graduate student Liam O’Connell, placed 1st in the 1650 yard freestyle final and set personal best times and a record in the 200 yard freestyle in preliminaries and finals with a time of 1:38:42.

The 400 yard medley relay of Archie Minto, Samuel Vidal, Bronson Benes, and Liam O’Connell set a record of 3:20:57. The 800 yard freestyle relay of Archie Minto, Samuel Vidal, Joe Cooper, and Archie Minto set a record of 6:44:30.

The 400 yard freestyle relay of Archie Minto, Liam O’Connell, Ben Yant, and Alexander Hiltbrand set a record of 3:04:17. Samuel Vidal set a record in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:00:65.

The women accumulated 26 personal best times and one record. Freshman Lana Janson had a personal best time in 5 events across 3 events, 51:25 in the 100 yard freestyle in preliminaries and 51:19 in the finals where she placed 2nd, 1:49:82 in the 200 yard freestyle, and 1:03:59 in the 100 yard breaststroke.
