I did this as a project for my drawing class, FAS 120. The subject I decided to draw is a white-breasted nuthatch in a tree branch, drawn with charcoal. I focused on leaving extra space around the bird to put more emphasis on the subject. In the background, I added light strokes with the charcoal in different directions, filling in the space and creating the illusion of forest trees.
