Last year The Griffin introduced its newest section “Creative Corner” under the umbrella of Opinion. Creative Corner was founded and edited by former Opinion Editor Connor Polhman. Well, this year the features staff wants to reintroduce you to the Creative Corner, and welcome its new editor and assistant!
Creative Corner was originally created to showcase the talented art students around campus had created. You could usually find poetry, drawings, photography, and even crossword puzzles, all created by students! It’s the perfect place for anyone to get involved with The Griffin to showcase their creativity! The Creative Corner doesn’t only feature art submitted to us; we also showcase some of the creativity from Little Theatre all the way from the annual Quadrangle Magazine. The section also started to include columns such as “Ask Ava!,” and NFL mock drafts.
However, none of this creativity would be so beautifully presented in The Griffin without the amazing editors, Bri and Julian!
Bri Wasil is a sophomore, currently majoring in teaching English as a second foreign language (TESOL) and Spanish. She joined the staff last spring! She was the assistant Creative Corner Editor and has now become the Creative Corner Editor for the 2024-25 school year! Outside of The Griffin, Bri is also the secretary of Little Theater, the social media coordinator of Lucha, and the Vice President of Griff's Passionate about Education.
Besides being super involved in campus activities as an out-of-state student, being from Columbus, Ohio, Bri loves “to explore Buffalo itself.” Her favorite part of Buffalo is Elmwood and all of the fun shops and restaurants! She is also rowing at Westside, which is a master’s program and is “something that’s a really big adventure, so I’m a little intimidated sometimes, but I get to learn a lot and have good mentors,” Bri told us.
Julian Reynoso is a senior journalism major with a concentration in multimedia journalism, and has a communications minor. He recently joined the staff this fall as the Assistant Creative Corner Editor! Outside of The Griffin, Julian is also a part of Lucha, is a teacher’s assistant for the English department and is on Canisius’ rifle team right next door to our own clubroom!
Julian is from the Buffalo area, and said his favorite spot in the city is Spot Coffee on Elmwood! So, if you ever want to find Bri and Julian I’d say first, look in Lucha, and then check out Elmwood!
As for their plans for Creative Corner this year, Bri and Julian plan to incorporate more comics, interactive games, and even a new column called Griff-Fits! Griff-Fits was started by Julian and it's where “students volunteer and get asked questions about their outfits like, ‘what's your inspiration?’, ‘where did you get your clothes from?’” he said. Julian says he pulled inspiration from Vogue Magazine and how they talk about fashion in a fun and creative way.
Next time you write a poem you love or take a photo you can’t wait to show the world, talk to Bri and Julian because they are ready to show your art the appreciation it deserves!
