Meet the library’s newest staff member – Adelina DiPalo

You might have seen a new face around the library recently and been wondering who it is – well, it is Adelina DiPalo, the newest Student Success Librarian here at Canisius! DiPalo has been in Buffalo for the past 13 years after moving from New Jersey at age 14. She graduated with her Bachelor’s in English and a minor in English Education, grades 7-12 from Buffalo State University. Just this past May, DiPalo graduated from the University at Buffalo with a master’s degree in Library and Information Science. She came to Canisius after working for two years in the library at Hilbert College. 

DiPalo knows the irony of being a librarian who loves to talk, but hopes that her conversations with students will help guide them to success. She loves that her position allows her to connect with students and have meaningful conversations that can impact their future. She wants to be an open book – no pun intended – for students to be able to trust her and her confidentiality. 

DiPalo wanted to join the Canisius staff, saying, “I was very drawn to the whole concept of care for the whole person because I feel like it’s really easy for colleges to just focus on the academic side of things.” She likes and wants more people to know that students can come to the library and not just have to focus on academics, but also on their connections. Her job is an outlet for her to be connected to her fellow coworkers and students that she meets. 

DiPalo started less than a month ago, but having experience working in a library has given her an understanding of what students are looking for when they come to a library. “I want people to feel comfortable coming in here talking to us about whether it’s library stuff or just needing help with anything. I just want them to know that we are here for them. Even if it’s not like a research question or anything like that.” Her job as a librarian is something that she takes a lot of pride in, knowing that she can come to work and make a difference in the students lives around her.
