One of the newest and youngest members of the staff this year is our assistant news editor, Katie Dusza. In her freshman year, she was a contributor for the news section, and now keeps the legacy of ‘Dussz News’ alive, following in her older brother and former managing editor Jon Dusza’s footsteps. “[Jon] told he had a great time. So I wanted to suck up all the joy from that and take his spot,” Katie said.
Katie is a sophomore double-majoring in English and integrated marketing communications. She’s from Amherst, NY and has two brothers. Her favorite color is pink, her favorite animals are bunnies and her favorite cookie flavor is chocolate chip. Growing up she also ran a One Direction fan account, which if you know Katie, isn’t much of a surprise. Much like her favorite things, Katie is bright and fun – no moment in the office with her is dull.
Outside of The Griffin, Katie is also the sisterhood/sunshine chair of Phi Sigma Sigma and PR director of CrescenDONT’S. Outside of school, you can probably see Katie shopping…like shopaholic level. Some of my personal favorite Katie Dusza purchases are: giant plastic cups from the Party City closing sale and an emo wig she got off Amazon (see the most recent almost Friday for reference). She is also a barista at SPoT Coffee. “I love making caramel macchiatos, because you put the caramel in it, and then you put the espresso in it, and then you can feel the caramel melting,” Katie said.
Katie requested that it be included that her birthday is on Nov. 6. If any of her "admirers" would like to get her a gift, she requests a car (driveable), a boyfriend or Ariana Grande tickets. “I started listening to Ariana Grande when I was in middle school, like, religiously, in middle school. I would listen to Ariana Grande all freaking day and I know every word, and I know the lore, and I know every song and every album. I love Ariana, like she really defined my pre-teen years, and she continues to define my life,” Katie said.
With only three weeks on staff under her belt, Katie has already proven what an asset she is to this staff – so much so that the second week of our operation she earned “Editor of the Week.” She puts her heart and soul into the news section each week and loves this paper with everything she has. If you haven’t read an article written by Katie, I highly recommend it, because the things she says are worth listening to.
