A holiday of love brings a lot of emotions to the campus of Canisius, and each club and organization represents Valentine’s Day in their own unique way. Though not a club on campus, the Makerspace Creator Lab is celebrating Valentine’s Day the best way they know how: arts and crafts.
Located on the fourth floor of Old Main, the Makerspace lab is designed to help students be creative, as sophomore work-study Gracie Schurr commented on Wednesday. The lab offers “3D printing, t-shirt and vinyl creation, sticker and button making and a lot of other creative ideas.” As a way to connect with students, the lab hosted a“Valentine’s crafts” event, where students made homemade pipecleaner roses and Valentine’s garland, using the garland as decorations for dorm rooms. With different ideas coming from Schurr and others at the Makerspace lab, the event also had other versions of self-made roses that students would be able to take home and give to family members or their significant other.
The Makerspace lab itself is a great place for students to come and de-stress which the Valentines crafts event showcased throughout the afternoon. “If you have a stressful week and you have an hour or two, you can come up to the lab and take your mind off classwork or life in general, and you can be creative and relax your mind,” said Schurr. The lab has open hours to students which will be announced on the new Instagram account that the Makerspace team is beginning to post on and any additional questions can be emailed to Schurr.
As the Canisius community prepares for this year’s edition of Valentine’s Day, the Makerspace lab is just one of many clubs and organizations that are getting students ready for the lovely holiday weekend. With love in the air, Valentine’s Day is a little extra special this year at Canisius with the love from the clubs on campus.
