The Canisius men’s soccer team earned their second conference win of the season on Oct. 11, when the Golden Griffins defeated the Quinnipiac Bobcats 2–1 at home.
The Griffs had lost three straight games coming into the matchup against the Bobcats, struggling to start games fast after surrendering the first goal in all three of their losses. That trend would change against Quinnipiac, with freshman defender Henrique Dias scoring his first collegiate goal in just the third minute of the game.
The Bobcats answered in the 12th minute, but it was Gabriel Leslie’s goal in the 38th minute that proved to be the game-winner. His third goal of the season helped the Florida native earn MAAC Rookie of the Week honors. “I worked hard for this, and I don't want to stop there. I want rookie team of the year and most importantly, for us to make the MAAC Championship playoffs,” said Leslie.
Following a 4–1 loss to Sacred Heart last weekend, which included sophomore forward Sydney Aggrey’s first collegiate goal, the Griffs look to get back on track in conference play with a matchup against Manhattan on Saturday at 3 p.m.
