Lana Janson makes her debut on the Swim and Dive team with 2 school records

The Canisius women’s Swim and Dive team recorded a win in their season-opening meet against Marist College last Friday at the Tonawanda Aquatic Center. The score was 164.5-135.5.

Freshman Lana Janson earned 27 points for the Griffins, placing 1st in the 200 yard breaststroke with a time of 2:24:31, as well as 1st in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06:10. Janson also broke the 50 yard breaststroke school record with a time of 31:18.

Junior Jordan O’Connor wasn’t far behind Janson, earning 18 points for the Griffs. O’Connor placed 1st in the 100 yard backstroke with a time of 59:30, she also placed 1st in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:10:31.

The men’s team fell short by 4 points, losing to Marist 147-151. Sophomore Archie Minto earned 27 points for the griffs, placing 1st in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 49:61, as well as the 200 fly with a time of 1:50:30.

Saturday both the men and women lost to Binghamton University. The women lost by 16 points with a score of 156-141, while the men lost by 44 points with a score of 169-125.

Lana Janson again dominated the meet, earning 27 points for the griffs, and beating her 100 yard breaststroke time from the previous day by 1.4 seconds with a time of 1:05:15 making that her personal best and setting a new school record. She also dropped .40 seconds in the 50 yard breaststroke, breaking the school record she had set the previous day.

The Griffs’ next meet is Oct. 22 against Siena College and the University of Rochester at 1pm in the The Burt Flickinger Center in Buffalo.
