Griffmas, which was supposed to be held on Dec. 4, will be postponed due to the weather and campus closing.

Griffmas is an annual celebration at Canisius, kicking off the end of classes and the holiday season.

On Dec. 5, there will be a tree lighting ceremony which usually quicks off the start of Griffmas, with President Steve K. Stoute lighting the tree in the Quad.

In an email to the campus sent out on Dec. 5, Jason Francey – the director of student engagement and leadership development (SELD) – stated that during the tree lighting, there will be a giveaway of ugly Christmas sweaters and hot chocolate.

Before the event was postponed, The Griffin reached out to Nikki Middleton, assistant director of student engagement, who stated that the prior plan for Griffmas included a photo booth, a mechanical reindeer and a station where students could make their own snow hats.
