Leading up to Halloween, campus has been abuzz with spooky events hosted by various clubs and organizations. One of the most recent came from the Afro-American Society, which held its Halloween Fest on a perfectly chilly night in Science Hall Commons. The event gave students a chance to unwind from the stress of classes and spend time with friends while enjoying a movie together.
Science Hall Commons was transformed into a festive Halloween space complete with themed tablecloths, table toppers and music. Caution tape wrapped around the poles, and the witch hat ring toss added a playful touch. Upon checking in, students received a ticket for the food truck “The Great Aussie Bite,” which served sandwiches and chips. The doors leading to the food truck were decorated with fake blood and bloody handprints, giving students a fright before they grabbed their meals. Inside, there was no shortage of treats to choose from; the buttery smell of popcorn filled the air while the table offered cotton candy, cookies, apple cider, donuts and drinks like Sprite, Capri Sun and water.
Some students arrived dressed in pajamas and many brought blankets, adding to the cozy, laid-back vibe of the night. Once everyone settled in, “Scream” (2022) began playing on the screen. The movie drew a mix of reactions, especially from students who had never seen this version or any of the Scream films before. As the night came to a close, Science Hall Commons slowly emptied as students gathered their things and headed out. The Afro-American Society’s Halloween Fest brought people together for fun, relaxation and scares, making it an amazing way to celebrate the season on campus.
