Do you like writing, art or simply having a place to share your creativity? Then the Quadrangle might be the club for you. Canisius University’s literary magazine gives students a space to showcase their creative work and share their perspectives with the campus community.

So what exactly is the Quadrangle? The Quadrangle is Canisius’ literary magazine, featuring creative work from members of the campus community. The publication gives writers and artists an opportunity to have their work seen beyond the classroom and become part of a larger collection of student creativity. From creative writing to visual art, the magazine brings together different forms of expression in one publication.

Behind each edition is a student editorial board responsible for helping shape the magazine and bring submissions together. The Quadrangle is led by a four–person editorial board. Co–Editors–in–Chief Emma Mehnert, a senior English major, and Kaitlyn Boxley, a senior Creative Writing major with a minor in Art History, oversee the magazine. Co–Executive Editors Kira Rodriguez, a junior Creative Writing and English double major, and Madison Howard, a sophomore Psychology major with a minor in Child, Family and Community Studies, work alongside them to help bring each edition together.

This year is a particularly special one for the Quadrangle as it celebrates its 75th anniversary. For three–quarters of a century, the literary magazine has provided a place for creative expression at Canisius, allowing generations of students to leave their mark through their work.

To celebrate the milestone, this year’s anniversary edition will center around the theme “Past & Present.” Rather than focusing only on the current student body, the Quadrangle is opening this edition to alumni, students and faculty. The theme gives contributors a chance to reflect on their experiences at Canisius, consider how the university has changed and share pieces that connect the past with the present.

Submissions are expected to open around Thanksgiving break, with more details about submission guidelines and deadlines to come. Whether you have a poem you have been working on, a piece of creative writing you want to share or artwork that deserves a place in the magazine, the Quadrangle will be looking for submissions as the anniversary edition comes together.

Want to hear about submissions as soon as more information is available? Email howard52@my.canisius.edu to be added to the Quadrangle email list. You can also follow the Quadrangle on Instagram at @quadranglemag for updates. Feel free to contact any member of the editorial board with questions about the magazine or upcoming submissions.

After 75 years, the Quadrangle is continuing to make space for creativity while celebrating the work and people that have shaped its history. This anniversary edition is an opportunity for the Canisius community to look back at where it has been, recognize where it is now and become part of what comes next.
