Canisius Volleyball finishes positive in stretch of 4 games

On October 8th and October 9th the Canisius Golden Griffins were at home dominating conference opponents St. Peter’s and Rider winning 3-1 in each match. Against St.Peter’s, the Canisius volleyball team had a program record 16 service aces on the day to add onto the performance.

Senior Ella Louissa led the team with a match-high 18 kills on the day, while junior Alexa Albinson had 13 kills and sophomore Kara Zaucha had 11 kills. Against Rider the Golden Griffins were led in kills by sophomore Emma Mans who had a career high of 13 kills. This past weekend on October 15th and 16th the Golden Griffins finished 1-1 as they were away at conference opponents Marist and Siena.

In their win against Marist, Canisius Volleyball won their fourth straight match 3-1. Canisius controlled the last set holding Marist to only 8 kills and 9 attack errors on their 42 attempts. In their match against Siena the Golden Griffins took their conference opponent to the fifth set in their loss.

Freshman defensive specialist Alyssa Rich had a career high 14 digs for the team. Overall, the Golden Griffins are 9-10 overall this year with an impressive 7-3 record in conference. Special recognition goes out to senior Bree Long and freshmen Ella Bourque. Bree Long has won her third libero of the week this season for the MAAC. Ella Bourque takes home her sixth freshmen of the week this season in the MAAC in the eight weeks of the season.

This weekend the Golden Griffins take on conference rivals, eighth place, Quinnipiac and, first place, Fairfield in Hamden, Connecticut and Fairfield, Connecticut respectively.
