By Stephen Lapage, Sports Reporter

After securing their first win of the season, the Canisius Women’s lacrosse team headed on the road again in hopes of securing a win against Queens University.

Queens struck early, netting the first two goals of the game, but Canisius was able to score three unanswered goals, two from graduate student Paige Stachura and one from senior Caroline Netti. Queens was not done, as they were able to score another goal before the quarter ended to tie the game at three.

The Royals carried their momentum into the second quarter, scoring two goals back to back to regain the lead. The Griffs rallied back as sophomore Briauanna D’Andrade scored her first collegiate goal, and Netti was able to tally another goal to tie the game at five. Queens was able to capitalize on turnovers and inconsistency from the Griffs, as they scored five straight goals before halftime to give them a 10-5 lead.

After back and forth play with no scoring in the second half, Queens was able to put another one past sophomore Jody Chu to extend their lead. Stachura was able to keep Canisius in the game as she scored two more goals before the end of the quarter, putting the Griffs down four before the final quarter of play.

Queens scored early in the second quarter, but senior Grace Harner was able to score her first career goal to bring the Griffs’ deficit back to down four. Queens was able to score another goal shortly after, but senior Riley Davis was able to secure back to back goals to cut the Queens lead to three. Queens was able to score one more goal in the final minute, winning the game 14-10.

“The inconsistency in our play all around made this game difficult for us today,” said head coach Russell Allen.

The team looks to get back in the win column as they travel to Mount Pleasant, Michigan to play Central Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 25. The game is set to have an 11:00 a.m. face-off.
