“Do you have any tips for dressing for this weird weather this week?”
As someone who’s either shivering or sweating with no in between, the weather right now has been a particularly prominent proponent of my being pissed off lately. I wake up freezing and bundle up, then end up with pit stains two seconds into my walk to class. This may be more of a me problem though, and you may be more impervious to this perilous weather than I am. Still, I doubt you’ll be able to remain unaffected by the typically temperamental fall about to take over Buffalo’s forecasts.
My solution: a good old fashioned costume change! Tearaway pants unfortunately still remain a bit of a taboo fashion choice for those of us who aren’t high school gym teachers or the cast of Magic Mike (opinion article on normalizing tearaway pants coming soon), so you’d be better off focusing on layering: specifically, the top half of your outfit. Choosing a just-as-lightweight – but slightly more fashionable – tee or tank instead of that one musty undershirt you keep wearing gives you the potential to rip off whatever blouse or polo has you feeling like a middle-aged woman in the midst of a hot flash, and still look stylish after.
We may not have issues regulating body heat in common, but one thing we’ve probably all dealt with is not knowing what to wear sometimes. Deciding between two different looks? Just like Hannah Montana, layering gives you the best of both worlds. You can go from librarian chic in a chunky sweater and boots for the morning, then totally give streetwear in the afternoon if you come prepared, wearing a cool graphic tee underneath your knitwear.
Next time you get dressed, reader, I ask that you try to think of yourself as a Russian nesting doll of outfits, prepared to break into another layer as quickly as the weather may change.
