Happy Halloweekend, Griffs! Whether you are staying on campus or going out, we want all of you to be as safe as possible. As the weekend commences, here are the 10 best ways to stay safe through the events going on!Â
Know the Public Safety number: (716)888-2330Â
If you do not already have this number saved, put it in your phone now! The job of Canisius Public Safety is to keep us safe, so if you are feeling unsafe and need support, do not be afraid to call them!Â
Use the buddy systemÂ
Do not go anywhere alone! Stay with a friend or someone that you know at all times. If you and your friends go somewhere together, choose a buddy and stay with them.Â
Watch your drinksÂ
Do not accept drinks from anyone, especially if you did not see it get made and brought over to you. If you order a drink, watch the drink get made from start to finish and do not take your eye off of it until it is gone.Â
Keep your phone charged and with you at all timesÂ
If anything were to happen, you are going to need your phone to call a friend, family member or Public Safety. Charge your phone before you leave and if you need to, bring a portable charger.Â
Trust your instinctsÂ
You need to look out for your own best interests – if you feel unsafe at any time, take care of yourself. You’re not dramatic – you’re ensuring your own safety.Â
Call the police if you feel like you need toÂ
If you feel unsafe, follow tip number five and call the police. Do not let anybody convince you not to if you feel like it is necessary.Â
Have plans for how to get where you’re going and how to get homeÂ
DO NOT DRINK AND DRIVE!! Make sure you know how you are getting to where you want to be and that you have a ride home.Â
Be aware of your surroundingsÂ
Watch what is happening around you – you never know what people are going to do when they are in the state they might be in. Â
Pace yourself when drinking and avoid excessive drinkingÂ
Make sure that you are drinking water, especially if you are consuming alcohol. You should also be consuming fluids with electrolytes in them like Gatorade, Pedialyte, etc., to make sure that you are hydrated at all times.Â
Eat a good meal before you go outÂ
Eat a substantial meal before leaving to go out! Your body needs fuel before you spend the night without food!Â
If there has ever been a time to be safe, it’s Halloween weekend when you are in college. Halloween is a time to have fun, but your fun should not be more important than your safety! Be kind to yourselves, Griffs!Â
