Women’s Lacrosse falls to ranked Fairfield

Canisius fell to 1–2 in conference play after being dominated in the second half by #25 Fairfield on Saturday. 


Sophomore Maggie Tifft started the scoring for the Griffs in the first quarter, but the Stags were able to tie the game less than a minute later. Sophomore Mag Hiltz scored right after to give Canisius the lead again. Senior Riley Davis put one past the Fairfield goaltender to give Canisius a two goal lead. Fairfield scored three straight goals to take the lead, but Hiltz was able to score her second of the game to tie the score at four. 


Fairfield scored three straight goals in the second quarter, but Hiltz was able to complete her hat trick and put Canisius back within two goals. Senior Caroline Netti responded with a goal to bring the Griffs within one. Fairfield squeaked in a final goal before the end of the half to give them an 8-6 lead.


The Stags controlled the third and fourth quarters, scoring 12 straight goals before junior Hailey Rooney and graduate student Paige Stachura stopped the lengthy scoring run. Those two goals were the final tallies on the day, with the game ending in a  19-8 Fairfield victory.

The Griffs will play at home on Wednesday April 3rd. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m. at the Demske Sports Complex.
