The women’s lacrosse team waited patiently for conference play results, a trip to the MAAC tournament hanging in the balance following their 17–14 victory over the Manhattan Jaspers on Senior Day.

The win over Manhattan increased their chances of heading to the MAAC Championships after the Jaspers suffered their sixth-straight loss. But all hope was lost when Rider defeated Quinnipiac 16–13 later that day, clinching the final postseason spot.

Sophomore Maddie Fitzgerald paced the team with her six goals, closely followed by senior Hailey Rooney’s career-high five goals. This marked the first time in two years that two Canisius players scored five or more goals in the same match.

Along with Rooney, the team celebrated Senior Day with seniors Taylor McArthur and Sophie Socker as well as grad student Alex Czepukaitis. Fittingly, Socker found the back of the net in the first quarter for her second goal of the season.

In the preseason coaches’ poll, Canisius was picked to finish in sixth place, but ultimately finished in ninth, something that can be attributed to the significant roster turnover coming into the 2025 season. The young core that makes up the majority of the team will look to improve upon their 3–5 conference record, and 6–10 overall record, next spring.
