The Canisius community gathered together on the second floor of the library on March 27 for the ribbon cutting ceremony as the new Center for Student Success was finally opened. The Golisano Center for Student Success was created to make it easier for students to access resources like tutoring, academic advising and other support services without having to move across campus. For many students, that means less time searching for help and more time focusing on their coursework.
After the ribbon cutting, attendees explored the new space, walking through areas designed for studying and meeting with friends or advisors. The layout is built to create a comfortable environment where students can work independently while knowing support is close by if they need it. President Steve Stoute said the goal is to make sure students have what they need to succeed. “Students will find every resource they need to succeed all in one place,” Stoute stated. He added that the center represents a long term investment in students and their future. “Canisius Students will walk through these doors for generations and know their potential matters, their success matters and we are invested in them.”
For students, the biggest impact comes down to convenience and accessibility. Rather than having to search across campus for different offices or services, students now have one central space where they can get help when they need it. The center also creates a more welcoming and supportive environment, giving students a place where they can study, ask questions and feel comfortable seeking help. With tutoring, advising and other resources in one location, students are more likely to take advantage of the support available to them.
Analee DeGlopper, president of the United Students Association, said she is encouraged by the way the space will support future students. “I’m excited knowing that students, including my younger sister, will have this center to support their success,” DeGlopper said. She said the center reflects the University’s focus on making sure students have access to the resources they need. As students begin to use the space, many note that it will change how they approach their academic experience. Having multiple support services in one place can make it easier to stay organized, ask for help and stay on track throughout the semester. The new center gives students a place to focus on their goals, offering support and resources designed to help them succeed during their time at Canisius.
