Three men’s basketball players enter transfer portal

By Aidan Joly, Editor-in-Chief

Canisius men’s basketball has lost three players to the transfer portal, all coming in one day.

On Wednesday, verbalcommits.com said that Armon Harried, Malek Green and Brandon Kulakowski have all entered the NCAA’s transfer portal, which now has over 1,000 players in it as of Thursday.

Harried was the Griffs’ leading scorer for the 2021-22 season as a junior, scoring 11.2 points per game in just under 30 minutes per contest. He also grabbed 4.4 rebounds per game. The Baltimore native got a starting nod in each of the Griffs’ 32 games this season. He scored a career-high 22 points in the Griffs’ win against Coppin State on November 24. He also hit a game-winning shot in the final seconds against Rider on January 21.

Green spent two seasons with the Griffs after playing two seasons at Morehead State. In the 2020-21 season, Green averaged 13.2 points per game and was honored as the MAAC’s Sixth Player of the Year. His numbers and minutes dipped a bit in the 2021-22 season, only seeing 17.9 minutes per game and scoring 10.9 points per contest. However, he shot 50% from the field for the season. He will be a grad transfer with one year of eligibility at his next school.

Kulakowski, a walk-on, appeared in just two games this season as a freshman. He scored three points in 11 minutes played in the Griffs’ 106-40 blowout win against Fredonia State on November 22.

This will leave the Griffs with a minimum of five open scholarships for the 2022-23 season with the departures of Green and Harried. The Griffs had two scholarship players leave the program midseason so the Griffs finished the year with 11 scholarship players out of a maximum allowed of 13. In addition, Scott Hitchon has used up all of his eligibility. It is currently unclear if the remainder of the seniors will use their extra year of COVID eligibility to come back next season.
