The Griffin Editorial: The most magical place on Earth, 2001 Main Street

This weekend is Griff Weekend, and with that, The Griffin feels impassioned to speak about the magic of Canisius. While the lot of us take it for granted, the halls of our schools, and more importantly, the faculty, staff and students within them, are filled with a splendor and love that truly cannot be replicated elsewhere. The Jesuit values that our university centers itself on are always present here – whether it’s the support we get from our success coaches each semester when registering, the heartfelt messages from professors we receive when we regretfully email that we’re sick and will be out of class or the way The Griffin editors band together to support their banged-up senior staff and produce an amazing paper even on a Thursday when one has covid and the other has their wisdom teeth removed. Cura personalis, magis and being people for and with others may be words on our website or in our orientation packets, but they come to life in the character, tenacity, kindness, curiosity and resolve that our Griffs display throughout the community, from us students, professors, staff, administration, trustees and up to our president. The community here on Main Street is one that truly fills our cups, nourishes our souls and leaves us as better people, not just as better students.

This Griff Weekend, we encourage you to celebrate all that it means to be a Griff, whether you’re a current student, alumnus, professor or proud Griff parent. Catch a classic soccer or volleyball game and cheer on your Golden Griffins with the most spirited student section there is – C-Block – or bond over a silly Disney movie in the quad with your roommates with snacks from SELD. Whether you’re a current student or alumnus celebrating 50 years, never forget that the Main Street magic never forgets a Griff, so make the most of your time on campus and celebrate how special it is to be a part of this community.

Has today’s generation ruined old love?
