Canisius Golf traveled to Youngstown, NY this week to participate in the Little Three Championship. This tense matchup saw Canisius pitted up against its bitterest of rivals, St. Bonaventure and Niagara, with the latter having home field advantage for this matchup. St. Bonaventure has historically been dominant in the Little Three, having won 46 of the 71 played championships and entering this year's event on an eight-year-long winning streak. Both rounds of the tournament were played on Wednesday, Sept. 24 and saw eight Canisius golfers taking the course. Six of these golfers were on the official team while the other two came as individual golfers. Of these golfers, four finished within the top 10 of the tournament.

Freshman Blake Furtney, who came as an individual, placed fifth with a two-round score of 145 (+3). Sophomore Chase Burgess tied for sixth with a 147 (+5), and junior Jacob Dantonio tied for eighth with a 148 (+6). The standout player of this week is Mikey Takacs. Takacs was one of two players in the championship to score under par for the entire tournament (-2) with him matching his personal best in round two with a 67 on the Par 71 (-4). This was enough to notch him second place in the tournament, just one stroke behind the individual medalist, Ben Herbert of Niagara (-3). This is Takacs’ second career leaderboard performance and a truly incredible day for the junior.

The final scoring was close, as each team came within one stroke of each other. At the end of the day, however, Canisius was able to assist in dethroning St. Bonaventure, placing second (-19) to Niagara (-18) while Bonaventure took third (-20). This Monday, Canisius will be travelling down to Nashport, Ohio to take part in the Virtues Intercollegiate, hosted by Bowling Green.
