Swim and Dive goes into MAACs on a loss

Men’s and women’s swimming and diving finished out their regular season with a double loss against the Le Moyne Dolphins on Jan. 24 with the men falling 204-92 and the women falling 166-134.
The Griffs lost in the Battle of the Bridge meet against Niagara on Jan. 17 with a score of 210-52 for the men and 205-57 for the women. The women were able to pull out their first win of the season against Rider University on Jan. 10 with a score of 174-126, but the men fell short with a score of 204-90.
On the women’s side, junior Evie Leighton ended the regular season ranked 12th in the MAAC. Leighton only swam in the 400-yard medley relay at Saturday’s meet and did not compete in any individual events. She placed first in both the 100-yard and 200-yard freestyles at the Griffs meet against Rider where they pulled out their only win of the season.
Sophomore Daphne Mead ended the regular season ranked 30th in the MAAC and broke the pool record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:06.78. Mead also placed first in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard individual medley. She swam a personal best time of 24.83 in the 50-yard freestyle in the Griffs’ Jan. 17 meet against Niagara.
Mead and Leighton also broke a pool record in the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 3:53.86 along with junior Cassandra Ercoli and junior Leyna Swanson.
On the men’s side, senior Sam Vidal ended the regular season ranked 31st in the MAAC. Vidal placed third in the 200-yard freestyle and fourth in the 200-yard breaststroke. Freshman Luke Nagle had the best performance of the meet and swam the only first place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 10:12.10.
The Griffs’ next meet is the MAAC championship Feb. 11-14 in Geneva, Ohio at the Spire Institute.
