Song Man
By Kira Rodriguez, Creative Corner Editor
Song Man danced up to the bus stop in front of the library.
Song Man always had his white headphones on with a beat playing in each ear.
Song Man wore a blue windbreaker on the cooler summer mornings, but when the sun warmed the downtown streets, he had on a colorful shirt with any and all patterns.
Song Man sang.
He always sang.
Song Man didn't care who heard him as he let the elderly cut in front and the women too.
Song Man sang loud for everyone to hear.
He sang his favorite hits from the 80s and 90s.
He sang as people stared. Some smiled, wanting to join in. Others made the look, some even whispered and snickered.
But he sang.
He always sang.
Until he didn't.
Song Man didn't have his headphones like weeks past, just a single earbud that played his favorite hits.
He never sang them, just listened as he let a young woman cut in front of him to get on the bus like every morning.
She smiled and thanked him.
The young woman never got the chance to ask why Song Man sang.
Song Man stopped dancing to the bus stop.
