In the Oct. 3 edition of The Griffin, we covered the Sept. 26 United Student Association (USA) meeting, as we do every week. The Griffin reported the information from the USA meeting as it was presented. In regards to the Paper Light initiative on campus, we would like to clarify and correct issues with the information that was shared at the USA meeting and in our article.
Canisius University will not be removing all printers on campus, nor will it require appointments to be made at a printing center, as previously reported. Canisius University will be adopting the Paper Light model on campus, but the campus will not be paperless. The exact number of printers on campus and the location of the printers are to be determined.
Additionally, there will be no new print center on campus, as previously reported in The Griffin. The existing Print Shop will remain the primary printing source for large volume or specialized print jobs, with the exact details of how the Print Shop will take on new job referrals in addition to its current responsibilities still being finalized.
The Paper Light initiative was recommended by the Institutional Sustainability Task Force in the Spring of 2025. The Institutional Sustainability Task Force was comprised of faculty, students, staff and three Board of Trustees members and suggested Paper Light as its #1 recommendation. The Board of Trustees then adopted this recommendation. Before Canisius implements the Paper Light initiative, an advisory council that will include faculty members and university staff members will be formed to make the final decisions regarding the number and location of printers on campus. The advisory committee will report to the Faculty Senate before any changes are made on campus.
The Griffin thanks university officials for providing corrections on this topic.
