Origami Bat

The Griffin

Materials required: paper provided by The Griffin newspaper, scissors (The Griffin does not provide scissors).

Step 1: Cut out the square on the bottom right corner we left for you and fold two opposite corners together to get a triangle.

Step 2: Use the dotted lines from the previous photos as a guide on where to fold. You do not need to draw them. Fold the triangle vertically along the line, turn the new smaller, folded triangle around and fold it well.

Step 3: About halfway horizontally on this new triangle, fold the bottom upwards to have what looks like a boat.

Step 4: Fold only the tip above the dotted line downwards so that it rests over the part folded in step 3.

Step 5: Along the dotted line, fold the paper vertically outwards and make sure that it looks like the paper in the photo. (Don’t mind the scissors on the paper, just a paperweight here.)

Step 6: Following the dotted line, fold both sides inward being sure not to bend the middle.

Step 7: Fold the paper following the dotted lines in step 6. Now the middle part with the bent tip should be poking out in between what will be the wings.

Step 8: Fold the tops of the longer pieces of the paper – these will be the ends of the wings.

Step 9: Undo most of the folds until you have a bat shape going on like in the photo. Now you will need the scissors to cut the tip of the triangle off where the dotted lines are to get those iconic pointy bat ears.

Step 10: Enjoy your flying friend!
