The Canisius men’s lacrosse team concluded their list of preseason games, falling short to St. Bonaventure 12-8.
The Little Three rivalry was hosted in Olean, New York where the Griffs were looking to repeat their victory from home last year, but could not come back after a 9-3 lead for the Bonnie’s at half.
Caption Jackson Webster continued to add points to his senior season tallying two goals for himself and one assist. Junior TJ Buono notched his first two goals of the season, back-to-back, late in the final quarter to shrink the lead Bonaventure had accumulated.
For the victorious Bonnies, it was freshmen who led the scoring with Jake Kucinski scoring four goals and Patrick Shanahan with three. Goaltending was almost even between Canisius’ Tommy Kunz and St. Bonaventure’s Cristoforo Cucciuffo, Kunz with 10 saves and Cucciuffo with 11.
With a late push in the second half, the Griffs were able to outscore the Bonnies 5-3 in the second half, with three of them being on man-up opportunities, though the effort wasn’t enough.
The next game for the Canisius men’s lacrosse team will be on Saturday, March 16th, at Marist University at 1:00 p.m.
