Canisius men’s lacrosse won a 9–8 overtime thriller against the Quinnipiac Bobcats on Saturday, picking up their second conference win of the season.

Sophomore midfielder Dawson Wade netted the game winner 1:23 into overtime, marking the first goal of his collegiate career. The thrilling win moves Canisius to 3–5 on the year with a 2–0 record in conference play.

The Griffs started out hot in the matchup, recording three goals in each of their first two quarters. Senior Micah Hanson and sophomore Carson Christy accounted for two goals each in the first half with freshman Justin Relosky and sophomore Peter Biglin accounting for the other two. However, the third quarter changed the momentum of the game. Canisius allowed five consecutive goals while scoring zero of their own. This put Quinnipiac ahead by a score of 8–6, but that lead wouldn’t last long.

The remainder of the game was all Canisius as they tied up the score in the fourth quarter. Goals from senior Kaiden Libby and Christy, who recorded his first hat trick of the season, forced extra time.

Canisius senior Josh Verhagen credited the defense as crucial to the team's comeback, calling the effort a “total team defense.” Verhagen also credited redshirt freshman goalie Sam Kosloski, whose 16 saves marked a career best, and the most for any Canisius goalie this season.

“We talked about wanting to be in first place after this weekend,” said Head Coach Mark Miyashita when asked about their upcoming games against MAAC opponents Sacred Heart and Siena, two of the tougher teams in what Miyashita called a “tough MAAC.” He continued, “We have such a limited number of chances, so getting these two wins helps us position ourselves in a great spot.”

The game against Sacred Heart is next up on the Griffs schedule as they travel to face them on Saturday, March 21.
