This past weekend, the men’s and women’s swim and dive teams both lost to Binghamton University. The men’s team lost by a landslide of 100 points, with a final score of 198–98. The women’s match was closer, losing 191–108.
Unsurprisingly, freshman Daphne Mead once again dominated in the pool, placing first out of all women. Mead swam a personal best in the 100-yard IM with a time of 59:89, the third overall swim of the meet. She also had the fourth overall swim in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:56:57. Mead swam a 58:66 in the 100-yard butterfly, which was the ninth top swim.
Not far behind her, sophomore SaraJo Gardner placed fourth overall out of all the girls in the meet, and swam season best times in all of her individual events. Gardner placed first in the 100-yard backstroke with a season best of 59:91, and first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:09:36.
While the men’s team had a tough meet, juniors Toby Mayfield and Sam Vidal placed in the top five overall for men. Mayfield placed first in the 100-yard IM with a time of 52:96 and second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 1:56:75. Vidal placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 58:23 and second in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:08:06.
The Griffs are back in the pool for the Magnus Invitational from Nov. 21-23 in Cleveland, Ohio. Their next dual meet is Dec. 3 at 6 p.m. against St. Bonaventure University.
