On Monday, Oct. 5, Canisius President Steve K. Stoute delivered the State of the University address to faculty and staff. President Stoute met with The Griffin Staff on Wednesday, Oct. 8, and he, along with Dr. Harold Fields, the Vice President of Student Affairs, will come to the United Students Association (USA) meeting on Oct. 16 in the Grupp Fireside Lounge.
Also on Monday, Oct. 5, Canisius celebrated World Teacher’s Day as the university celebrated faculty and staff that help continue the Jesuit message of Cura Personalis and emphasize the Canisius motto: where leaders are made.
On Tuesday, Oct. 6, Canisius celebrated News Engagement Day with Bruce Andrioch, the managing editor of The Buffalo News, speaking to journalism students about the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in news today.
A protest in France got out of hand, after numerous people were injured and almost killed, when a 15–year–old boy picked up a hand grenade, blowing up in his hand. The reason for this protest was to gain funding for multiple high schools that have low budgets and poor maintenance. Sebastien Lecornu, the Prime Minister of France, promises students and parents that their demands will be met by replacing absent teachers, and that school buildings will be repaired.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced during a press conference at Northland Workforce Training Center in Buffalo, N.Y. that, due to AI taking over people's jobs, she will be expanding the New York Community College Program. This expansion will now include adults who already have their college degrees and want to retrain their studies, aged from 25 to 55 years old. By January 2027, the state will start covering the cost of their tuition, fees and books.
United States President Donald Trump will hold a midterm rally in Syracuse, N.Y. on Friday, Oct. 9 as a way to campaign for the Republican candidate for New York governor, Bruce Blakeman.
