Hobey Baker Memorial Award nominee, Grant Porter, scored his eighth and ninth goals of the season in the Griffs 4–3 OT win over Niagara.
Porter grabbed one goal in regulation and scored the OT winner to secure the Griffs victory. He scored two goals in a game for the first time in his career. The senior has a total of 23 goals over the three campaigns he has been a part of with the Griffs.
During the week, Porter makes sure to “take time before and after practice to work on my shooting.” He also works with his skills coach from home, whom he has trained with since he was 13. “I work with him during the year and he breaks down all of my games on video so I know what I need to work on. He will then give me drills and little skills to work on based off the game video,” he explained.
On the other side of the ice, sophomore goalie Petter Wickström Stumer finished with a total of 51 saves over the weekend. His save percentage on the year (.925) is higher than last season’s (.904), but his marks of .871 and .889 during the Battle of the Bridge were his two lowest this year.
Wickström Stumer stated that it’s important to “be present every time… just kind of reset and really focus on small details and just make sure to give everything out every time I go out on the ice.” He stays sharp by focusing on “what the opponents tendencies are and what types of opportunities they’re looking for in the power play set.”
Porter, Wickström Stumer and the Griffs will travel to Moon Township, Penn. this weekend to take on the Robert Morris Colonials.
