Golf stumbles in spring season finale

By Peter Neville, Sports Reporter

The Men’s Golf team finished tied for last place earlier this week in their season finale at the Albarta Coca-Cola Invitational.

After the first round of play on Sunday, Canisius appeared to have improved upon last season's performance at the Coca-Cola Invitational, securing ninth place out of 13 teams after the first 18 holes with a cumulative score of 309 strokes. However, the Griffs stumbled in the second round, dropping to 12th place overall after posting a second-round score of 305 strokes. This was a four-stroke improvement, but not enough to keep pace with the rest of the pack.

Individually, the Griffs were once again led by Junior Ryan Edholm, who finished eight strokes above par over the two rounds, placing himself tied for 37th overall after finishing within the top 15 just one season ago. Mikey Takacs and Jake Dantonio both finished just behind Edholm, landing tied for 44th, nine strokes above par.

Looking ahead, Canisius aims to improve upon last year's performance in the MAAC Golf Championship, where they finished in seventh place. Last season, Ryan Edholm and Ben Ramold performed the best among returning golfers, with Edholm posting a score of 216 and finishing in the top five. Ramold finished tied for 39th after posting a score of 234 over the three rounds. The tournament takes place at Disney’s Palm Course in Lake Buena Vista, Florida, with the three-round tournament teeing off this Friday.
