The Canisius golf team competed in the Bucknell Invitational earlier this week in Lewisburg, Pa. The tournament featured athletes from 18 different schools as the Griffs completed their fall schedule.

Heavy rain rolled through the area Saturday night into Sunday morning, forcing officials to call off the first day of the tournament on Sunday. The tournament was then shortened to a two–round, 36–hole tournament to be played on Monday and Tuesday.

The Griffs would finish 13th in the tournament with a team score of 573. Canisius finished one stroke behind both Mercyhurst and Binghamton and five strokes behind host Bucknell.

Sophomore Cole Thompson recorded the lowest score of his career in Round 1 with a score of 69. Thompson was one of 39 golfers to score at par or lower in the first round. Thompson was the Griffs’ top finisher and tied 35th for the entire tournament with a total score of 142.

In Round 2, senior Jake Dantonio had a career low of his own with a score of 67 and his first collegiate round scoring in the 60s. Dantonio and fellow senior Mikey Takacs tied for 53rd in the tournament, posting a score of 144. Graduate student Matthew Santini finished two strokes behind the seniors, good enough for tied 67th.

Fairleigh Dickinson won the tournament behind a strong outing from sophomore Angad Singh. He notched his first collegiate individual title with an overall score of 130, a program record in a two–round tournament. The Devils had four of their five golfers inside the top 10, helping them take home their first win of the fall season.

Little Three Rival St. Bonaventure and Metro Conference foe Rider finished fourth and fifth respectively, while Colgate and Youngstown State took the top spots behind the Devils. For the Griffs, this was the final fall tournament, and will return to the tee in the spring.
