The men’s golf team closed out its season last weekend by finishing tied for fifth in the MAAC championships in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
David Hanes had a strong showing at the beginning of the tournament, tied for third after the first of three rounds. Meanwhile, Jaret Chipman and Matt Genaway placed in the top 15 after one round.
Shane Broad led the way for the Griffs in the second round as Canisius struggled, falling back on the team leaderboard and Hanes fell back to tied for 13th after shooting five-over par at 77.
The third day of the tournament was cut back to nine holes due to rain, where Mike Donner shot a one-under par for the nine holes, which placed him 17th in the tournament. Chipman and Hanes finished tied for 17th and Genaway tied for 28th.
Iona won the tournament for the third year in a row, and the Griffs have now finished fifth three straight years. Rider finished second in the tournament, Fairfield finished third and Niagara was fourth. The Griffs tied with Monmouth for fifth.
