Canisius finished in sixth place in the Hartford Invitational this past weekend, led by a strong performance from Michael Wells.

“What clicked for me was my driver and my iron shots onto the greens,” Wells said. “My swing felt great and I was able to give myself easy putts all round long.”

Canisius had a decent Saturday, but got hot Sunday, as the senior Wells shot a career low 71. His performance, coupled with junior Shane Broad's late efforts shooting a 76, paced the Griffs as they finished in sixth place.

The performance on Sunday also moved Broad up nine spots on the leaderboard in a four way tie for 24th, along with teammate Mike Donner who shot a 79 on the final day of the tournament.

The Griffs freshmen duo of Joey Maher and Ben Ramold finished the tournament with a combined score of 156, tying them for 34th.

“Keep the game as simple as possible and take one shot at a time,” Wells said on how he approached the weekend.

Canisius will travel to The Steel Club in Hellertown Pa. this weekend for the Abarta Coca-Cola Invitational hosted by Lafayette College where they hope to keep the same level of play as they did in the second day of the tournament in Hartford.
