The Iona women’s basketball team held Canisius to a tight grapple on the court Thursday, but ultimately came out on top with a final score of 52–45.

Junior Shariah Gailes dominated the court with 13 total rebounds, 10 of which were defensive. Gailes continues to lead the team in rebounds with 158 on the season after the contest against the Gaels.

On offense, sophomore Yasmine Djibril led the team with a total of 15 points, tied with Iona’s Isabellah Middleton on the court. Djibril also led the team with four offensive rebounds and an assist to end the loss against the Gaels.

Canisius now moves to 2–13 in the MAAC, sitting in 12th place in the conference, ahead of only Niagara. With the 2026 MAAC Championships on the horizon, Canisius would have to lose to Manhattan this upcoming Saturday as well as a win for MAAC rival Saint Peter’s over Sacred Heart for an elimination to occur.
