By Isabella Custodi, Contributor

Canisius women’s cross country took home first place after Olivia Moran finished first in the women’s portion. The men placed second in the race, which was held at Delaware Park in Buffalo, NY, last weekend.

Head coach Tyler Schevig was proud of his team's success this past weekend. “This was a perfect showcase of what our team’s capable of as we head into the MAAC Championships,” Schevig said.

Graduate student Olivia Moran led Canisius with a time of 17:14.5, beating last year’s finish of 18:50.7. Last year, Moran placed 12th at the Canisius Alumni Classic, and this year she skyrocketed herself into first.

Following behind Moran, senior Jules Jones placed third. Her time was 17:49.4, beating last year’s finish by almost a minute. Sophomore Kayla Schmidt came in fifth (18:00.5), graduate student Marissa Silba in sixth (18:02.5) and sophomore Jacqueline Appenheimer in ninth (18:29.6) making up half of the top 10. The women’s team had a total of 24 points to secure first place.

Men’s cross country took second place with a total of 41 points. Senior Tom Appenheimer secured third place with a time of 24:11.6. Along with Appenheimer, sophomore Kyle Urban took seventh (24:49.1) and graduate student Andrew Perreault in eighth (24:56.8) placing them within the top 10. Seniors Max Chew and Patrick Garland took 11th and 17th place, respectively, helping bring the Canisius men into second place. Binghamton placed first with 30 points.

Canisius’s next meet takes place Monday, Oct. 30 for the 2023 MAAC Cross Country Championships at the Twin Ponds on the Farm in Montgomery, NY.
