Cross Country competes at Notre Dame

The Canisius University cross country teams competed in their first away meet of the season on Friday, Sept. 18, traveling to the National Catholic Invitational in South Bend, Ind., hosted by Notre Dame.
Canisius participated in this race for the 43rd time in their program's history, taking on schools such as Notre Dame and long–standing rival Niagara. Host Notre Dame took first place in the men’s and women’s competition with DePaul following in second on both sides as well. The men’s cross country team finished in 10th out of the 16 competing teams with a combined score of 223 points while the women finished in 13th place with a combined total of 352 points.
Junior Nathaniel Fisher, following a top 5 performance at the Little Three Championship, led the Golden Griffins in Indiana, finishing with a time of 25:07.3 in the 8k, placing 31st. Following a sophomore season of valor, setting personal records at the Akron Al Campbell Invitational and UB Alumni Invitational, Fisher is continuing to grow as a Griff. In the first two meets of this fall season, he has been a top finisher for the Griffs; he will look to continue to evolve as the year goes on. Luckily for him, he’s already off to a hot start.
Fisher was followed by sophomore brothers Jacob Granville (25:32.9) and Daniel Granville (25:45.5), as well as junior Adam Kozman (25:46.6), who cemented the men’s 10th–place finish.
On the women’s side, sophomore Julia Gullo continues her success this season as she leads the women’s team in the 5k. Gullo finished with a time of 19:32.6, placing 60th. Gullo has been on a roll to begin the fall season, being a top 2 finisher on the women’s team at the Little Three Championship as well as this past weekend. The sophomore continues to evolve as a runner as her success this season signals a bright season ahead.
Gullo was followed by freshmen Emily Priset (19:48.0) and senior Mia Servis (20:22.5). The women’s cross country team continues to progress and show promise of a great future within these first couple of meets.
The team will continue the improvement they’ve made early in the season as they hit the road again on Oct. 2. competing in the Paul Short Run in Bethlehem, Pa. hosted by Lehigh.
