This weekend, Canisius is hosting the 50th reunion of the Class of 1975. This event is one of many parts of the Griff Weekend that Canisius hosts over three days. It combines Family Weekend and the Alumni Weekend and reunion into an entire celebration. The importance of the Alumni Reunion gives past Canisius Griffs a chance to reconnect with the campus and people in the community, and time to reflect on themselves. Since Canisius has always been a place “where leaders are made,” a private event is held to recognize alumni who have distinguished themselves in their careers. Additionally, they showcase alumni under 40 years old who have also demonstrated this achievement, as part of the Emerging Leader Award Ceremony. However, alumni reunions are not the only thing that takes place during this weekend.

The campus also hosts family events such as Movie Night in the Quad – taking place Friday night – featuring snacks and a chance to see “Big Hero 6” on the big screen underneath the stars. As well as holding brunch, tailgates and other fun community events, a favorite of the Griffins is the well-known Fall Fest, which takes place from 4-7:30 p.m. on Saturday. This event is filled with carnival games, food trucks, prizes and more. Upperclassmen are always seen showing the younger Griffs the layout of these events by leading the lines as early as an hour beforehand to make sure they receive the special giveaways and for a chance to win those carnival prizes. Griff Weekend offers an amazing opportunity for everyone to be more involved within the community and demonstrates the impact of Canisius University through past and future Golden Griffins. It’s an event you won’t want to miss.
