Canisius golf struggles in spring opener

By Peter Neville, Sports Reporter

Canisius’s golf team took part in their first event of their spring season this week, finishing 12th overall in the Carpetbagger Classic hosted by Binghamton University.

As a team, the Griffs finished 65 strokes over par with a final score of 641. It was a struggle over both rounds. Canisius showed only moderate improvement in the second round, posting a score of 318 compared to their first-day score of 323.

Freshman Jacob Dantionio led the way for Canisius with a score of +14 over the two rounds, landing himself tied for 49th place. However, junior Ryan Edholm spent his weekend knocking the rust off, posting a +18 in the tournament, which tied his highest score of the school year thus far. He finished tied for 64th place in the tournament.

Canisius looks to bounce back from this 12th place showing during spring break as they participate in the Southern Invitational tournament in Palm Beach, Florida. The tournament spans three rounds over two days, from April 1 to 2. The par-72 course may present challenges for the Griffs, as they finished tied for 10th place out of 11 in last season's tournament.
