Canisius men’s lacrosse lost an overtime heartbreaker on Tuesday, falling to the St. Bonaventure Bonnies by a score of 11–10.

Despite history running deep between the two schools, it’s only the 12th time in NCAA history that the two teams have played each other in men’s lacrosse.

Canisius entered the game with a 2–4 record coming off a fresh victory against MAAC competitor Iona, but let the score slip early on, quickly falling to 4–1 in just over 14 minutes. However, Canisius was able to rally and stage a comeback in the fourth quarter. Canisius was, ultimately, very disruptive, and while they only held the lead once this contest, they turned the final minutes into a frenzy with four ties and two lead changes.

Some notable performances came from sophomore Peter Biglin who recorded a hat trick on the day as well as redshirt sophomore Quinn Huber who recorded two goals. Redshirt senior Mark Matott played well in net, recording a career high of 12 saves.

Head Coach Mark Miyashita was quick to look forward after the loss, claiming that while he’s disappointed that the team couldn’t pull out the win, he sees a lot he can work on to improve his team. “We've got to learn to cut down on the mistakes, especially self-inflicted mistakes, which has cost us too many goals this year, and today was no different,” said Miyashita.

Miyashita also gave a shoutout to Matott in honor of a hard fought performance from his goalie. “He made some huge saves for us, which helped to keep us in the game,” he commented.

Canisius’ next game will be at home against Quinnipiac on Saturday, March 14, scheduled to start at noon at the Demske Sports Complex.
